Privacy Policy

We built A To Z Nutritionist to help you eat better with real dietitian guidance—not to collect data for its own sake. This page explains what we actually collect, why we need it, and what you can do about it.

Last updated:

The short version

  • We collect information you give us so the app can personalize meal plans, scan food, track calories, and power coaching chats.
  • Health-related details—like allergies, dietary restrictions, and conditions you choose to share—stay tied to your account and are used to tailor your experience.
  • We do not sell your personal information or run third-party ad tracking in the app.
  • Some features use trusted service providers (for example, AI and image hosting). They process data on our behalf, not for their own marketing.
  • You can deactivate or permanently delete your account from the app, or request deletion at atoznutritionist.com/delete-account.

What this policy covers

This policy applies to atoznutritionist.com(our website and blog) and the A To Z Nutritionist mobile app for iOS and Android (the “App”), operated by A To Z Nutritionist (“we,” “us,” or “our”). Use of the service is also governed by our Terms of Service.

If you use the App, most of the information below applies to you. If you only browse the site or subscribe to our newsletter, the website and newsletter sections are the main ones to read.

Information we collect

Account and profile

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address and password (stored as a secure hash—we never store your plain-text password)
  • Name and, if you add it, phone number

Health and nutrition preferences

To personalize plans and safety checks, you can tell us about goals, dietary restrictions, allergies, and health conditions—either by picking from our catalog or typing your own. We store what you save in your profile.

Meal plans, nutrition library, and check-ins

When you use the App, we store things like:

  • Your personalized nutrition plan and weekly meal plans
  • Meals you log, rate, or mark as eaten
  • Weekly reflection check-ins (how the week went and optional notes you write)
  • Calorie and nutrient logs from scans, meal-plan entries, or manual logging

Food scans

If you scan a food label, barcode, or meal photo, the App sends that image to our servers. We store the photo, the nutrition information we derive from it, and whether you marked the item as consumed. Scan history stays in your account until you delete it or delete your account.

Chats

The App includes:

  • Condition chats — AI-assisted conversations scoped to a health condition you selected. You can also ask to speak with a human expert; when you do, registered dietitians or staff on our team can read and reply.
  • Team chat — Direct messaging with our support and nutrition team.

We store chat messages and thread metadata so conversations continue across sessions.

Device and technical data

The App keeps your login session token in your device's secure storage so you stay signed in. When you use the App, our servers receive standard request information (such as IP address, app version, and timestamps) needed to operate the service and troubleshoot problems.

We ask for camera and photo-library access only when you choose to scan food. We do not access your location, contacts, or microphone for core App features.

Website and newsletter

If you subscribe on our website, we collect your email address and record that you joined the newsletter or waitlist. We do not require an App account to subscribe.

Our blog and marketing pages may load fonts and images from standard hosting providers. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics cookies on the site today.

How we use your information

We use the information above to:

  • Create and update personalized meal and nutrition plans
  • Analyze food photos and barcodes and match them to nutrition databases
  • Check whether foods fit your allergies, restrictions, and goals
  • Power AI coaching chats within dietitian-approved guidance
  • Let our nutrition team review plans, answer questions, and provide expert support
  • Track calories and progress you choose to log
  • Send account-related communications and, if you opted in, newsletter updates
  • Keep the service secure, fix bugs, and improve features

Our staff and authorized nutrition professionals can access member data when needed to provide support, review plans, or respond in chat. Access is limited to people who need it for their work.

AI and automated processing

Several App features use artificial intelligence—for example, reading food photos, estimating nutrition when a product is not in a database, generating plan drafts, and answering questions in condition chats.

When you use these features, relevant content (such as your profile summary, a food photo, or chat messages) is sent to our AI provider to generate a response. AI output is designed to stay within guidance written and reviewed by our registered dietitian team, but it is educational coaching—not a diagnosis or a substitute for medical care.

You can request a human expert in condition chats. When you do, AI replies may stop and a team member takes over.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run the platform, under contracts that limit their use to providing services to us. These include:

  • Cloud hosting and databases — where account and app data is stored
  • Image hosting — for food scan photos and blog images
  • AI services — for food vision, plan generation, and chat responses
  • Email delivery — for newsletters and transactional email
  • Public nutrition databases — we query sources like the USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts to look up foods; we send food-related search terms, not your full health profile, for those lookups

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users, or in connection with a merger or acquisition (we would notify you if ownership changed in a way that affects this policy).

What we do not do

  • We do not sell or rent your personal information to data brokers or advertisers.
  • The App does not include third-party advertising SDKs or cross-app tracking for ads.
  • We do not use your health profile to target you with unrelated marketing from outside companies.

How long we keep information

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. Weekly reflections are capped at roughly one year of history in the app.

If you deactivate your account, we disable sign-in but retain your data in case you want support to restore access later.

If you delete your account permanently from Settings, we remove your profile and associated app data from our database—including plans, scans, logs, chats, and reflections—and delete food scan photos stored with our image host. Encrypted backup copies may take a short time to age out.

Your choices

  • Profile — Update your name, phone, and preferences in the App settings.
  • Permissions — You can deny camera or photo access; you just will not be able to scan food until you allow it.
  • Newsletter — Unsubscribe using the link in any email we send, or contact us to be removed.
  • Account — Deactivate or permanently delete your account from the account menu in App settings, or submit a request at atoznutritionist.com/delete-account.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as requesting a copy of your data or asking us to correct it). Email us and we will help.

Security

We use industry-standard measures like encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls for staff tools. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and review our practices as the product grows.

Children

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Health information and medical disclaimer

Information you enter—such as conditions, allergies, and goals—is used to personalize nutrition coaching. A To Z Nutritionist provides general wellness and nutrition education. It does not provide medical diagnosis, treatment, or emergency services. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider for medical decisions.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. Continued use of the App or site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
